Chiropractic & Sports Chiropractic

Chiropractic/Sports Chiropractic is about diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions with a drug free approach. The goal is to restore normal joint function, alleviate pain, and enhance overall movement and flexibility. Chiropractors use their hands or specialized tools to deliver precise movements, targeting areas where they identify joint/mobility dysfunctions.

Dr Jono has experience working with young adolescents through to the older population utilizing a variety of techniques such as:

  • Diversified Adjustments

  • Mobilizations

  • Drop Piece

  • Activator

  • IASTM - Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage

  • Dry Needling

  • Active Release

  • Kinesio/Rocktape Application

Adjustments also known as spinal manipulations:

chiropractic adjustment

The primary goal of adjustments is to restore normal joint function, alleviate pain, and enhance overall movement. Chiropractors use their hands or specialized tools to deliver these precise thrusts, targeting areas where they identify joint dysfunctions.

Mobilisations

Mobilizations are gentle and controlled movements performed by chiropractors to improve joint mobility, increase range of motion, and reduce muscle tension. Unlike adjustments, mobilizations involve slower, repetitive movements applied within the joint's natural range. Mobilizations are often used when adjustments may be too forceful or not appropriate for certain patients, such as those with acute injuries or certain medical conditions.

Drop Piece

The drop piece technique, also known as the Thompson technique, is a specific method employed during chiropractic adjustments. It involves the use of specialized chiropractic tables equipped with drop pieces. These drop pieces are sections of the table that can be lifted and then released to create a gentle and precise downward force as the chiropractor applies an adjustment. The drop piece assists in the adjustment process, allowing the chiropractor to apply a more focused force while minimizing the impact on the patient.

Activator

The activator technique is particularly useful for patients who may prefer a more gentle approach or for those with certain conditions that may require a more controlled and precise adjustment. It can be beneficial for individuals with musculoskeletal issues, including spinal misalignments, joint restrictions, and certain types of muscle tension.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue MOBILIZATION Therapy

This type of soft tissue therapy involves the use of a specifically shaped tool which is ideal for reducing muscle pain and tightness. The aim is to slightly irritate the area by the movement that stretches and pulls on the underlying fascia and helping to movement and blood flow which promotes healing in the area

dry needling

Dry Needling

It involves inserting thin needles into specific trigger points or tight bands of muscle tissue, without injecting any substances. The aim of dry needling is to stimulate the muscle fibers, release tension, and promote pain relief and improved range of motion. By targeting trigger points, which are often associated with myofascial pain syndrome, dry needling can help alleviate muscle knots, reduce muscle tightness, and enhance overall muscular function. It is a safe and effective procedure when performed by trained professionals who have a comprehensive understanding of anatomy and needling techniques.

Active Release Technique

The ART technique aims to restore proper tissue texture, release tension, and improve blood flow to the affected area. It involves a combination of specific pressure, stretching, and movement patterns that target adhesions and promote tissue healing. By addressing the underlying soft tissue dysfunction, ART can help alleviate pain, improve flexibility, and enhance overall musculoskeletal function.

rocktape on shoulder

Kinesio tape/RockTape

Is designed to provide support and facilitate the body's natural healing process while allowing for a full range of motion.

Kinesio tape is applied directly to the skin over muscles, ligaments, or joints. It is flexible and elastic, mimicking the properties of human skin. The tape is designed to lift the skin slightly, creating space between the skin and the underlying tissues. This lifting effect helps to improve circulation, reduce swelling, and enhance lymphatic drainage.

Rehab and Exercise Advice

As many mobility conditions are caused by muscle imbalances and joint dysfunctions you may require exercises to strengthen weaker muscles as well as stretches to help improve flexibility.
